Zgodba o odraščanju spremlja najstniško dekle, ujeto med vzhodnjaške vrednote in tradicionalno kulturo, katere želja postati tekmovalna plavalka doživi nepričakovan zasuk, ko dobi prvo menstruacijo.Kratka drama se intimno loteva nelagodja najstniškega dekleta iz tradicionalne indijske družine, ki doživlja puberteto. Kanya je uspešna mlada plavalska prvakinja z obetavno športno kariero. Njen svet se podre, ko dobi prvo menstruacijo in njena družina zahteva, naj sprejme tradicionalno žensko vlogo. Naravno zorenje dekleta ter njena telesna in psihološka preobrazba ne zanimajo njenih bližnjih in omejujejo njeno svobodo. Na zunaj se Kanya podredi zahtevam in pričakovanjem ter sprejme usodo brez nasprotovanja. Vendar se v njej odvija bitka moralnih načel, ki preraste v globoko frustracijo – dokler ne zbere poguma za upor sistemu, ki jasno določa merila konvencionalne ženske vloge v družbi.

Kanya means new, fresh. Kanya intimately explores the inner dissonance of an adolescent girl who is experiencing puberty in a traditional Indian family. Kanya is a successful swimming champion with a promising career in sports. Her world collapses when she gets her first period and her family demands that she accepts the traditional status of a woman. Kanya's natural maturing along with her physical and psychological transformation are neglected by her close ones who also curb her freedom. On the outside, Kanya yields to all the demands and accepts her fate without objecting. However, she experiences deep trauma within. Kanya's inner disharmony escalates, leading her to finally muster the courage to revolt against the system that clearly defines and sets the standards of the conventional status of a woman.
