Po 40 letih odsotnosti Joker prevzame posestvo Brucea Wayna in izkaže se, da pozna njegovo skrivno identiteto. Joker skoraj ubije svojega sovražnika, vendar njegov varovanec Terry McGinnis reši življenje Waynu – za zdaj.Terry McGinnis je od ostarelega Brucea Wayna prevzel Batmanove obveznosti v boju zoper zločin. Od njega se je naučil veliko in odkril večino njegove preteklosti, vendar ne pozna pretresljive resnice o poslednjem soočenju Batmana in njegovega največjega sovražnika Jokerja.
