Jane Grant je samska mlada ženska z uspešno službo v založniškem podjetju. V nekaj tednih mora najti primernega spremljevalca, ki jo bo spremljal na poroko njene sestrične. Ukrepati mora, ker se je vsem zlagala, da ima resnega fanta. Tako se Jane poda na lov za primernim moškim, žal pa pri tem vedno naleti na napačne izbrance. Kot da nima s tem že dovolj težav, se v njeno življenje spet vrne sošolka iz srednje šole Natasha Nutley, ki je zdaj televizijska diva v žajfastih nadaljevankah. Jane, ki mora urediti Natashino avtobiografijo, ni nad ponovnim snidenjem prav nič navdušena.

Come wedding day, Jane had better deliver. Now, Jane has two months to find a guy to fit the lie, complete the guest list, and save face. If the series of miserable set-ups orchestrated by her well-meaning best friends Eloise and Amanda are any indication, Jane's in for big trouble.
