Vse, kar si najstnik Greg Heffley želi početi med počitnicami, je igrati videoigrice in se zbližati s svojo simpatijo Holly. Toda njegovi načrti se izjalovijo, ko se Gregov oče Frank odloči poletje izkoristiti za to, da več časa preživi s svojim sinom, mu zato prepove igranje igric in ga vpiše med skavte. Toda vse še ni izgubljeno, saj Greg izve, da Holly kot teniška inštruktorica dela v podeželskem klubu, ki je last staršev Gregovega prijatelja.
Summer vacation started, and Greg has his own way to enjoy it with video games. However, his father wants him to go outside and stop playing video games, and his mother has her own plans, including a reading club. In addition, Greg can't get along with his father.
