Lansko leto je dočakal tudi slovenski prevod (Resna igra). Söderberg se je v svojih delih osredotočal na ljubezen, vero, osebno svobodo, ekonomski in družbeni položaj posameznika ter pričakovanja družbe. Vsekakor teme, ki so univerzalne in aktualne še danes. Resna igra je ljubezenska zgodba z začetka 20. stoletja, z glavnima junakoma Arvidom Stjärnblomom in Lydio Stille. Hkrati je odličen portret Stockholma in kronika tistega časa, z referencami na literarna dela, glasbo in filozofe. Arvid, mlad in obetaven novinar, se zaljubi v Lydio, hčer priznanega slikarja, a se noče vezati, da ne bi izgubil svobode. Lydia se poroči z drugim, kasneje tudi Arvid, a v zakonu brez ljubezni ni srečen. Po desetih letih se ponovno srečata. Lydia se je z možem razšla in z Arvidom se ponovno začenjata videvati. Tokrat je Lydia tista, ki želi ostati svobodna.

Once Lydia was the innocent girl - a daughter of a painter - that young journalist Arvid fell in love with out in the archipelago. Or did he? Arvid feels that he wants to make an importance in the world and make a clear break from his social background. His ambition stands in the way of marriage and the love slips away. A decade has past since they first set eyes on each other. Now both are married. Yet not with each other. They meet again and end up having an affair. An affair that forces the couple to reflect upon the time passed, how different they both have become and how far away from each other they actually are.
